Let’s look at the main ingredients:

      • Pecans
      • Egg
      • Cinnamon
      • Sweetener

Pecans and eggs are natural, nutritious food sources. Each have their own list of health benefits. And cinnamon is a natural spice made from tree bark. Mix in a little vanilla and you’ve got healthy pecans.

Sugar is what makes food unhealthy.

Add 100g of sugar (13g/serving) to these candied pecans and you’re looking at heartburn with an energy crash. (And you’ll be scouring the pantry for your next sugar snack within the hour.)

Substitute the sugar for a quality sugar alcohol, and these pecans become nourishment. The ingredients provide vitamins, minerals, protein and long-lasting energy.

      Candied Pecan Tips

      Cover Your Baking Sheet

You don’t have to wash your baking sheet if it doesn’t get dirty. However, we don’t recommend tinfoil for this recipe. Candied pecans stick to tinfoil which causes the foil to tear. Cover your baking sheet with a nonstick baking mat.

      The Perfect (unassuming) Holiday Gift

Put these candied pecans in a mason jar, tie a bow on it, and you’re done. You will strike the perfect balance of thoughtfulness without making people feel guilty for not getting you a gift.

      Buy Raw Pecans in Bulk

This recipe calls for two cups (7 ounces) of pecans. Buy in bulk to get the exact amount you need.  Not to mention, buying in bulk is a great way to use less packaging and save money.

How To Separate the Egg White

Crack the egg over a bowl, being careful to cup the yolk in one half of the shell. As you transfer the yolk back and forth between half-shells, allow the egg white to fall out into the bowl. Store your egg yolk in the fridge using glass tupperware. And don’t forget to check out our favorite sustainable kitchen products.

Save the Egg Yolk for Later

Egg yolks contain all of the vitamins, minerals, and energy in the egg. Add the yolk to your next batch of scrambled eggs, or use it to bake these cookies (they call for one egg yolk).
