Let’s take a look at the main ingredients:
- Cottage cheese
- Pitted dried dates
- Peanut butter
Pitted dried dates and peanuts are natural, nutritious food sources. Each has its own list of health benefits. Combine them together and you’ve got naturally sweet ice cream with a boost of nutty flavor.
But what about cottage cheese? Is dairy healthy?
Here’s what we know. Dairy is full of vitamins, minerals, protein, and natural fat energy. But if everyone consumed dairy all the time, dairy farming would become abusive and unsustainable…
Let’s be mindful of our dairy intake. Buy dairy that comes from pasture-raised cows and limit consumption.
Sugar is what makes food unhealthy.
Add 75g of sugar (19g/serving) to this recipe and you’re looking at heartburn with an energy crash. (And you’ll be scouring the pantry for your next sugar snack within the hour.)
Substitute the sugar for quality sugar alcohol, and this dessert becomes nourishment. The ingredients provide vitamins, minerals, and long-lasting energy.

Cottage Cheese Ice Cream Tips
1. Add mix-ins
If you want a little extra texture, try folding mix-ins into the ice cream after the ingredients are blended. For instance, sugar-free chocolate chips, coconut flakes, chopped nuts, and low-carb brownies all make for tasty options.
2. Use different flavors
Feel free to experiment with different flavor combinations to recreate all your favorite ice cream flavors. For example, adding chocolate protein powder, espresso powder, spices like cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and nutmeg are great ways to enhance the taste.
3. Use cones, cookies, and more
Of course, this cottage cheese ice cream tastes great served on its own in a bowl, but that isn’t the only way to enjoy it! Recreate your favorite desserts from the local ice cream shop by stuffing it into ice cream cones, between two chocolate chip cookies, or as part of a banana split.
4. Prep ahead
This recipe is so tasty it tends to disappear almost immediately. However, if you want to prepare it in advance, it can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer for 1-2 weeks.
